English has always been my passion. From teaching myself to read at 3 years old to becoming a Scrabble whiz, English Language Arts has embedded itself in my soul.
My path to becoming a curriculum developer was not a straight one. As an English major in college, I knew I wanted to work with words and language, but I wasn’t sure how I wanted to do it. After graduation, I became a communications intern, then an editorial intern, and eventually, a special education aide. I always loved school, and being back in the classroom felt “right.” Little kids were cute, but I decided what I really wanted was to teach high school ELA. I wanted those deep conversations about literature, to push students to think critically, and to help them develop their individual voices in a sea of homogeneity.
After 10 years of teaching at an urban public high school, I am more passionate about developing innovative, impactful, and equitable educational materials than ever before. I saw first-hand how students thrive when they see themselves in their learning experiences, and I have become a true believer in the idea that “one size does not fit all” when it comes to education.
My time in the classroom may be over, but my journey in ELA education has not come to an end. I am eager to take my content knowledge, pedagogical expertise, and love of creating meaningful learning experiences out of the classroom and into the hearts and minds of learners everywhere.
*In my downtime, I cherish spending time with my dog, Moxie, and making new memories with my family and friends.*
